Gale Sayers Monument at CHS

One of the Nebraska’s greatest athletes will be immortalized at CHS. Next fall, a statue of Hall of Fame running back Gale Sayers will be unveiled at Central’s Seeman Stadium. Local artist Littleton Altson sculpted the 8-foot tall statue, which will be cast in bronze.

Considered one of the greatest running backs in NFL history, Sayers spent seven seasons with the Chicago Bears. Before injuries cut short his career, the “Kansas Comet” was selected to four Pro Bowls and was named to the NFL All-Pro First Team five times.

The Central High School Foundation is accepting memorial donations in Sayers name to assist in the erection of the monument. Donations will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $85,000 thanks to the generosity of alumni Mike and Susan Strauss Lebens, CHS 1970; David, CHS 1970, and Martha Slosburg; and the Class of 1961!
